Think Ability Fair

October 7th 10-2pm, Pida Plaza

Community members have the opportunity to provide information on various disabilities and the resources available.  Participants can solicit information about disabilities from several vendors, non-profit organizations, and departments. 

 

GLBT Awareness Month

October 6th 7pm, Student Union 208A

This educational and interesting event is based on a panel that is comprised of members of the GLBT and heterosexual communities. The program is designed to break down stereotypes by having discussions facilitated by the panel members. 

 

Disability Awareness Month

October 21st 6pm, Student Union Room 205

Students participate in small and large group activities throughout the day that promote unity and leadership.  Workshops are also hosted to discuss various topics affecting underrepresented populations at various levels.

 

Native American Heritage Month 

November 12th 7pm, Student Union

Native American round table discussion.

 

Sharing the Seasons (Tentative)

November 17th  5pm, Student Union Room 208C

Guest speakers offer insight into their customs during the winter  season.

16th annual Take Back the Night

October 8th, 11am to 9:30pm, UNLV Pida Plaza

TBTN is an empowering event meant to honor victims of domestic, sexual, dating, and gender violence.  Contact the Jean Nidetch Women’s Center for more information.

 

Students of Color Leadership Symposium

Day of the Dead

November 1st and 2nd Winchester Cultural Center

The Las Vegas community is invited to participate in a two-day festival. The celebration features ofrendas (memorial alters built for deceased relatives and loved ones), food demonstrations, folkloric dance and live music, workshops, vendors, and a calavera (skull) poetry contest. 

 

Cultural Leadership Retreat

November 6-8th

Students are brought together to share their experiences and learn about those of others in an eye-opening, coalition-building retreat. 

 

Las Vegas Intertribal Pow Wow

November 14-15th 2009

At the Old Silverbowl Park, Behind the Sam Boyd Stadium,

6800 E. Russell Road, Las Vegas, NV. Grand Entry on Friday at 6:00 PM, Saturday Noon and 6:00 PM and Sunday at Noon. Gourd dancing will begin 2 hours before Grand Entry.
